Aft corner balcony — the wake view and the vibration

Carnival Celebration aft corner cabin 10520. The wake view is gorgeous and the corner position gives you a wider balcony with views in two directions. On our cruise to Cozumel and Grand Cayman the aft view was especially beautiful at sunrise. Now the honest part: there is engine vibration in aft cabins on this ship. It is a low hum, constant, present in the room and on the balcony. Some people will not notice. I noticed. It did not ruin anything but it was there. If you are vibration-sensitive, book mid-ship instead. The cabin is modern and well-designed with the Excel-class updates. The aft corner balcony is easily double the size of a standard balcony. Worth it if vibration does not bother you.

Where crew members go to watch the sunset

Entertainment team, two contracts on Wonder. Crew have very limited access to guest areas, but there are a few spots where we can briefly enjoy the view without being in guest space. The crew outdoor area on Deck 4 aft faces the wake and gets an incredible sunset when the ship is heading east. Most guests do not know it exists because it is behind a crew-only door. The view from that spot is actually better than most guest balconies because it is lower and wider with no glass barrier. I mention this because passengers in Deck 8 aft cabins like 8330 have essentially the same sunset angle but from higher up. If you want the sunset view the crew fights over, book aft-facing on Deck 8 through 10. The angle is perfect and you do not have to share with forty off-duty bartenders.

Wind tunnel effect on Deck 12 aft — bring a jacket

Something about the ship's design creates a wind tunnel on the aft section of Deck 12. Our balcony was unusable on two of five sea days because the wind was genuinely unpleasant — not dangerous, just constant and cold even in the Caribbean. The other three days were perfect and the aft view of the wake is stunning. Inside the cabin everything was great: modern, clean, well-maintained. The bathroom had recently been updated based on the fresh fixtures. Our steward was fantastic and left chocolate on the pillow every night along with the towel animals. If you book aft on Deck 12, just know the wind situation and pack layers for the balcony. The view is worth the occasional gust.

We accidentally stayed an extra night

Long story short: misread the disembarkation time, thought it was noon, it was 8am. Woke up at 9:30 to a very politely frantic knock. Our bags were already in the terminal. The cabin steward had basically been waiting for us to leave for two hours. He was incredibly gracious about it. They let us use the terminal lounge and held our bags. Norwegian staff handled it perfectly. But the cabin — once we finally left — we realized we'd basically had a free extra morning watching the port of Miami from our aft balcony over coffee. No ragrets.

The aft balcony wake view is worth every penny

Aft cabin on Bliss. The wake view is exactly what you see in cruise YouTubers' videos — looks almost fake it's so good. Best at sunset and early morning. The room itself is a solid balcony cabin, nothing special inside, but the balcony is slightly deeper than mid-ship balconies because of the aft taper. Warning: aft cabins on sea days at high speed get wind noise on the balcony, you can't really sit out with a book. But for the view it's worth it. Also slightly more engine vibration than other cabins — not bothersome but you feel the ship is alive.
