The midnight buffet raid in bathrobes

It was 1am. My college roommate and I were sharing an interior cabin on a budget cruise. We woke up simultaneously, both starving, having skipped dinner for the comedy show and then drinks. We looked at each other, looked at our bathrobes, and decided the Windjammer buffet was still open. We walked through the ship in bathrobes and slippers like we owned the place. The buffet at 1am on a cruise ship is a surreal experience — half-empty, strangely peaceful, one other couple also in bathrobes who nodded at us in solidarity. We ate pizza and fruit and ice cream and talked about life until 3am. It was the most relaxed meal I have ever had. Nobody cared. Nobody judged. Just two grown adults in bathrobes eating pizza over the Atlantic. Cruising at its finest.

The balcony skinny dip that got witnessed

It was 2am. We were in a private balcony. The hot tub had been closed for the night and we really wanted to feel the ocean air. My partner suggested we use the outdoor shower on the balcony au naturel since nobody could possibly see us. We were wrong. The cabin directly above us had an overhanging balcony at a slight angle, and the person up there was also an insomniac enjoying the night air. We made direct eye contact at the worst possible moment. They very slowly raised their wine glass in a toast, turned around, and went back inside. We never saw them again. We skipped the formal dinner the next night out of pure paranoia. The ocean air was worth it though.

The pajama dash to the wrong cabin at 3am

All the corridors look the same at 3am when you have had too many drinks at the piano bar. I spent a solid four minutes trying to open cabin 9318 with my key card before the door opened from the inside and a very confused elderly man in a bathrobe asked if I was lost. I was on the wrong deck entirely. My cabin was 10318. The man was incredibly kind about it — said it happens at least once per cruise in his experience. He pointed me to the elevator and wished me goodnight. I have never been more embarrassed in my life. The next day I bought a bright orange luggage tag and attached it to my key card lanyard so I could see my deck number clearly. The casino should come with a navigation warning.

Cabin above the pub — you've been warned

Deck 8 forward on Harmony, directly above the Schooner Bar. Soundproofing on this ship is generally good but live music + late crowd below means bass vibration audible until around midnight. Live music nights (check the schedule — usually Thursday and Saturday) are noticeably louder. If you're a night owl or light drinker yourself it's actually kind of fun — we'd fall asleep to faint jazz. If you're traveling with kids or keep early hours, find a different cabin. The cabin itself is standard balcony, no complaints there. Just know what's under you.
