Why MSC cabins feel different from American ships

Hotel director, MSC Seashore. European and American cruise lines design cabins with fundamentally different philosophies. American lines (Carnival, Royal Caribbean) optimize for time-in-cabin because their passengers often treat the cabin as a hangout space. MSC designs cabins assuming you will spend most of your time in public areas, restaurants, and ashore. This is why MSC cabins are slightly smaller but the public spaces are enormous and beautifully designed. Cabin 11200 is a standard balcony that illustrates this perfectly — compact inside but the infinity balcony design creates a feeling of openness that compensates. If you book MSC expecting a cabin-focused experience, you may be disappointed. If you book MSC planning to live in the public spaces, you will understand why Europeans love this line.

Port-side Deck 11 — the Mediterranean sunset position

If your MSC Seashore itinerary is in the Mediterranean heading south along the Italian coast, port-side cabins on Deck 11 get the sunset every single evening. Cabin 11310 had a perfect unobstructed view of the Amalfi coast at sunset on our second night and I have never taken more photos in my life. The cabin is a standard balcony with the MSC infinity concept — glass extension over the water. The room is well-maintained and modern. One issue specific to this cabin: the balcony divider between us and the next cabin has a small gap at the bottom that allows sound to travel. We could hear our neighbors' conversations clearly. Not a dealbreaker for us but worth noting for privacy-conscious travelers.

MSC infinity balcony — the glass floor is thrilling

The infinity balcony concept on MSC Seashore is unlike anything on other cruise lines. The balcony is not a separate outdoor space — the entire wall opens and the floor extends as a glass panel over the ocean. You are standing inside your cabin looking directly down at the water through the floor. It is vertiginous and beautiful. Cabin 10202 is mid-ship with an unobstructed view. The glass floor section is about two feet wide, enough to stand on but not enough for a chair. We spent hours just standing there watching the water pass below us. The cabin itself is modern European design — clean lines, good storage, slightly smaller bathroom than American cruise lines but well-designed. MSC knows how to make a visual impact.

Why end-of-row infinity balcony cabins go first

Bridge team here. We call the end-of-row infinity balcony cabins on Seashore the 'fishbowl corners' because they have sight lines that the middle balcony cabins don't. When the ship is docking, those corner cabins get the full panoramic view of the port approach — often 270 degrees. Passengers in 14088 and its equivalents on other decks almost always have a coffee in hand watching us park. Some ports take 45 minutes to dock and it's genuinely a great show from up there. Officers and experienced crew who know the ship always tell their family members to request corner units.

Infinity balcony lives up to the hype

MSC Seashore's infinity balconies (no barrier between you and the sea, just a glass floor extension) are genuinely something special. 14088 has a wider balcony than most due to being at the end of the row — extra maybe 40cm but you feel it. The ship is beautiful, cabin is modern and white with good storage. AC works well. Only issue: the infinity balcony has a small lip that collects water when it rains and it takes a while to drain. Found a puddle our first morning. Not a dealbreaker. Maintenance fixed a small rattling hanger issue within 20 mins of reporting. Would recommend MSC Seashore for couples who want the balcony experience.
