The night I watched a thunderstorm from Deck 11

Could not sleep. It was our third night at sea, somewhere between Jamaica and Mexico. Went out on the balcony at 2am and there was a lightning storm on the horizon — far enough away that there was no rain or wind on the ship, but close enough that every few seconds the entire sky lit up purple and white. The ocean reflected it. I sat there for over an hour watching the most spectacular natural light show I have ever seen. Not a single other person was awake on our section of balconies. Complete silence except for the ship humming and distant thunder. I have never felt so small and so alive at the same time. Some experiences you cannot photograph.
